How To Use Quotes In Your Journal
So, what is the best way to journal with inspirational quotes? There are so many ways, and one isn’t better than the other! Quotes are good things to use to prompt deeper thoughts, but you don’t have to write out pages and pages about what you think of the quote.
There are other creative ways to use inspirational quotes in your journaling routine. As you scroll through the quotes I compiled, here are a few different ways to use them. These are just a few ideas – but there are way more ways to use quotes than the ones I list. Be creative. Have fun with it. Journals are the best things in the world because there isn’t a right or a wrong way to use them.
Inspirational Bullet Journal Quotes
If you have a bullet journal, you can just add these inspirational quotes throughout the pages. Write the best quotes that stick out to you on your pages. An inspiring quote is a great addition to blank pages that are waiting to be filled with your ideas. The bullet journal method is so open-ended that you can basically do whatever you want with it. It’s a blank canvas, ready for you!
Write Them In Your Planner
If you have a planner, then write down a quote for each week. A good quote is a wonderful way to set your intentions for the week and get your in the right place. Plus, if you have tracker pages, some of these planner quotes can inspire you to keep going and stay motivated.
Art Journaling
You can also use hand lettering or doodling to create artistic journal entries. Paint the quotes with watercolors or pull out the meanings with different colors and patterns. Art has a way of expressing the emotions behind the words in ways that just letters can’t.
Journal Prompts
Of course, you can use these words of wisdom as writing prompts, too. Take the quote and write what it means to you.
- How does it make you feel?
- Did it bring up any memories?
- Who does it remind you of?
- How can you use the wisdom in the quote to have a better tomorrow?
Quotes are some of the best ways to kickstart a writing session.
What Is The Best Time to Write in Your Journal?
The best time to write in your journal is right when you think of great ideas, feel overwhelmed with emotions, or want to record the beautiful things around you. In other words, anytime is the best time. In fact, one of my favorite ways to journal is immediately when thoughts hit me. I’ll keep a journal in my bag and pull it out when inspiration hits me.
The best journals are ones that help the person grow. You can use them to entertain yourself too – but they are fantastic at helping with interpersonal growth.
What Else Do You Write In Your Journal?
Are you still a bit stuck with what to write in your journal? Here are a few more ideas to help you get started writing.

– Jack Canfield
There is something so much worse than missing the mark – it’s not even knowing if you could. All of the times that you feel like you fail are just showing you the different ways that don’t work. Eventually you’ll nail it. But you would never get there if you didn’t even try that first time!
If you want a simple life, start with decluttering your expectations. Stop trying to live up to someone else’s definition of success and instead, write your own.

This quote means so much to me. The only definition of success that matters is the one you create. You are writing your own story. You make the rules. Make your life easier and simpler by releasing yourself of the restraints of making other people happy.
Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.
– Carl Bard
Every step you take rewrites your future. Isn’t that exciting? You can literally change the course of your life just by deciding to. The future is full of possibilities! Even though the past happened – and we can’t change that – we can change what happens in the future.
Stop settling for a life you don’t want because you think it’s all that you deserve.
– Simply + Fiercely

The reason why we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.
– Steven Furtick
Everyone struggles. Everyone has a pile of mess on the couch while they take pictures of their spotless kitchen. Behind the scenes, we are all trying to figure it out and doing the best we can. Don’t ever feel like you’re the only one that is struggling.
The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places.
– Ernest Hemingway
One of the most encouraging things that you can learn is that when we grow through our pain, we are often stronger in those areas. Maybe it’s because we are wiser. Or maybe it’s because we built mental muscle strength. No matter the reason, when we realize that pain has a purpose, it’s so much easier to experience.

Once you start believing in yourself, anything is possible. Once you start believing in yourself, your dreams take shape. The more you believe, the more you achieve.

There is so much power in dreaming! Focus on what you really want. What are your deepest desires? Start to believe that you deserve them and that you are able to grasp them. As you begin to believe that you can, you’ll start seeing your dreams come true.
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

If there is anyone that can be called a conqueror, it’s Helen Keller. Her quote speaks volumes. You need to be confident and know that you can reach your goals. All that belief and confidence will fuel you closer to the finish line.
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.
– Albert Einstein
Everything we experience today and yesterday has a purpose. It’s to teach us things so that we can live better today! Keep questioning, keep searching, and stay curious.
Keep smiling, because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.

Dreams are some of my favorite things. These quotes are all about the power of your dreams. Every step started as a thought.
Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.

The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.
– Eleanor Roosevelt
First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt knows a thing or two about experiencing life! As she discovered, when you push beyond the fear, you’ll discover the beauty and richness of life. We are here, after all, to taste and live and love.
Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.
– William Wordsworth
The poet William Wordsworth was one of the best wordsmiths to ever live. Use his quote as a starting point for your journaling. What are you feeling? What does the beating of your heart tell you? Write it down. Doodle it. Use words or images or both. This artistic expression will help you manage the bad days and celebrate the good ones.
Wisdom is to have dreams big enough not to lose sight when we pursue them.
– Oscar Wilde
If anyone knows how to dream big, it’s the playwright and author Oscar Wilde. He took his own advice, dreaming so big that he not only graduated from Oxford, but wrote an acclaimed novel and play that are still regarded as masterpieces even over a 100 years after his death.
Don’t just dream big, but dream so big that you keep seeing those dreams even when you make thrilling accomplishments.
By the truth we are undone. Life is a dream. ‘Tis the waking that kills us. He who robs us of our dreams robs us of our life.
– Virginia Woolf
Another intelligent author was Virginia Woolf. She knew firsthand the power and necessity of dreams. They are what motivate us, propel us forward, and give us the energy to chase after them. Take her quote and ask yourself, have you woken up from your dreams at all?
It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.
– Paulo Coelho
It’s almost impossible to replicate the thrill that you feel when a dream comes true. And the ride getting there – seeing all the pieces fall into place, and that electrifying excitement at the possibility of the dreams coming true – it makes your head swim.
7 Quotes That Will Give You Courage To Take The First Step
Have you ever read something that just clicked? Sometimes, hearing the same thing in a new way is all it takes to help you realize exactly what you need to do. That’s what I’m hoping the following seven inspirational quotes do. I hope they give you that moment of clarity and conviction; just enough to give you the boldness to take that first step.
The willingness to show up changes us, It makes us a little braver each time.
– Brené Brown
Having the dream is the first part, but actually doing something about those dreams – that is what changes your life. Think back to the times that you did things even though you were scared. Isn’t it true that you become a little braver each time? That fear might still be there, but it isn’t as loud and isn’t as crippling.
Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.
– Les Brown
There are two really strong motivators – hope and fear. Which one are you acting on the most? Until you let go of your fears, the dreams will stay in the distance, just out of your reach. Yes, it’s scary to step out and act. But it is even scarier to imagine living a life you don’t deserve.
Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves even when we risk disappointing others.
– Brené Brown
Going after our dreams isn’t the only scary thing in life. It’s daring and bold to stand up to people and take care of ourselves. Boundaries are meant to protect the owner. And sometimes, enforcing those boundaries is really difficult – but it’s vital for your health.
It takes courage to love yourself at the expense of others. It’s almost counter-cultural – but it’s one of the most important things you can do.
Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It’s your masterpiece after all.
– Nathan W. Morris
I love comparing life to a novel that we are writing. That analogy can go really far! Just like an author might stop and edit out characters that are holding the story back, we need to make the decision to edit out people that are holding us back.
How will you make that ending happen? Change the scenary, revise the situation. Do whatever you need to in order to create your masterpiece of a life.
If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.
– Maya Angelou
Unfortunately, we don’t have control over every single thing. But we do have control over how we look at it. For example, maybe you can’t leave your thankless job today because your bills and responsibilities depend on your income. You can’t change those facts, but can change how you look at that job.
Instead of wallowing in misery, remind yourself that it is only temporary. Create a record of your accomplishments and skills, and actively network and search for a different job. Your attitude affects your actions.
Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead.
– Susan Sontag
This is another fantastic observation that needs to be read and re-read. Don’t wait for a sign from the universe that you should do something – go out and do it. Ask the questions, make the plans, live your life in a way so that you show love and accept love. Live the life you want and make it happen.
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
– Walt Disney
If anyone is qualified to make this statement, it’s Mr. Walt Disney. He literally went from rags to riches, constantly chasing after his dreams. And he made them happen! Even if you think your dreams seem too large or ludicrous, go after them anyway.
This is one of my favorite inspirational quotes of them all. It really is possible to go after your dreams!
